First Fashion Show
I got to shoot my first fashion show this past Thursday. Lucky for me I have a lot of very talented friends that thought of me when they needed a photographer. Sara Be ( http://www.thelionandtheunicorn.biz/ ) put the whole show together along with a lot of help from friends. I thought the night was a success and I had a lot of fun shooting it. Thats not to say it was easy though… I didn’t really know what to expect so luckily I made sure I brought almost all of my gear just in case and as it turned out, I used almost all of it. The available lighting was way to dim at its brightest, the walls were dark, and the ceiling was too high for any bounced flash. I almost started to panic at first but I just sucked it up and started playing with my lights. I actually kinda felt like I was back in my editorial photography class, it was kinda cool. I managed to find a setup that I liked (I’m including a picture + explanation of my setup for any fellow lighting nerds) and the rest was just about good timing. I never really saw myself as a fashion photographer but I have to admit, it was pretty fun!
OK here is the breakdown of my setup. I had zero ambient to work with so it was all lit with whatever lighting gear I had. I used 3 sb-800's all with the diffusor cap attached. Two on the ground firing up towards the models backs for a rim light. One camera right on a light stand about 7 feet up firing down at the models as they walked towards me. All of the lights were triggered using my d200's pop-up flash as a commander. (Thank god for Nikon CLS, lets see a canon do THAT!) I was shooting at ISO 250 at f/6.7 for 1/125th of a sec. It was a kind of tricky setup to do but I was pretty happy with it!

SORRY for the break! + Some cool holga images from MT.
Hey, sorry about the break in my photo of the day posts. I got back from MT and jumped right into my last semester at school plus work, crossfit, and a bunch more stuff I’ve been needing to get done. So Snapadia had to take a back seat for a little while but its back now! Here are some holga images I’ve been meaning to get up for a while now. I used 35mm slide film in my medium format plastic holga. (ie: small film in a bigger camera, thats why the image went across the entire film strip and not just between the sprocket holes on the sides of the film) Oh, and thanks to the holga being notoriosly unreliable, it popped open at one point while me and Thomas were enjoying some TDS burritos so a few of the photos were burned out a bit. But the rest turned out pretty cool. Enjoy!

The Union, the Wave, and the OX.
It wouldn’t be a night out in Missoula if we didn’t make it to the Union for beers and the Ox much later for some brekki. Plus the new crew of rmsp’rs took us to one of their late night traditions, six packs at Brennan’s Wave after hours. A little old school meets new school for really fun, late, and drunk night out in Missoula Montana.

Photo of the day – Thomas from Tasmania visits for the day.
Its been a year now since I finished up my amazing experience at RMSP in Missoula, Montana. I know a part of me stayed out there, I could feel it all year long. Well I couldn’t take it any longer so I will be heading back this time next week to visit some good friends and to take a week long intensive class on editorial photography. (I’m thinking that I’d like to do assist in that field when schools finally done with.) Of course I am not the only one to have the RMSP bug there are quite a few of us recent graduates who are making the trip back these next few weeks for some extra lessons and Montana air. One of those is my good buddy Thomas who hails all the way from the island state of Australia, Tasmania. Thomas is getting there the long way, driving all the way from the east coast and making some stops along the way. Luckily I was on the way and we got a chance to catch up for a day. It was great to see my buddy again and better yet, saying goodbye wasn’t so bad seeing as we get to hang out in Missoula just like old times in one short week!
Relaxing in New Hope. Guess I really should have gotten a picture of us with Thomas but we were all hungover/jet-lagged and this was the best I could think up at the moment.

Photo(s) of the day – Rebekka’s sending off party.
Our good friend Rebekka’s tenure as an opair has come to an end and she is off to the west coast to get some traveling in before she heads back home to Gemany. We wanted to send her off properly so we went to our favorite hookah bar and later we finished the party at Bryan and Meg’s house with some beers and Philly cheesteaks. Yum! It was great to meet you Rebekka, I’ll miss you. Hopefully next time we see each other it will be in some cool country. Tchau!
